Friday SHINE....

Today's reading: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20SAMUEL%2015&version=MSG

Happy Fun Friday, SHINE girls!  Don't ya just love Fridays?

Let's get straight to the reading...Whoa! Are we at a cliff hanger or what? I cannot wait to read the next chapter!

Do you find yourself feeling sorry for Saul? Me too.

I feel sorry for him, because I am a lot like him. Today's reading hit hard on my heart today. Once again, the resounding theme here: obedience.

Saul did not fully obey God with His instructions to kill every single last Amelekite. Instead, Saul saved some of the choice sheep and cattle to sacrifice to God.

GIRLS!!! Hello? Are we hearing this?

How often do we  "almost" do everything in obedience to the Lord. How many times do we think that by offering Him our "sacrifices" of prayer, reading His word, attending church, giving to the needy, etc...that this is enough.

All of those things are part of the walk...but we are missing out on one huge piece of the puzzle, complete obedience to Him.

You know what I mean by this. Obedience in all areas:

  •  loving the unlovable.
  •  forgiveness.
  • turning the other cheek.
  •  putting others before ourselves.
  • humbleness.
  • self-control.
  • taming our tongues.
  • minding our own business.
  • not gossiping.
  • showing grace to those that hurt us.
  • wives--submitting to our husbands, not only in action but in our hearts.
  • younger girls--submitting to your parents not just in action but in your hearts.

Did i mention loving the unlovable? (this is a toughy.)

Let's not miss what God is telling us through the life of Saul! He wants desperately for us to get this in our own lives.

Ask the Lord today, what's missing in your obedience to Him. He would love to show you. I only know this, because I am living proof of all of this.

Missing the mark, constantly. That's me.

Don't think this is about perfection. It has nothing to do with being perfect, but everything to do with being obedient. Big difference.

The verse that rings over and over in my ears after today's reading is this: "Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams." 1 Samuel 15:22

What is your burnt offering and sacrifice? Whatever it is, it's only part of the equation. The rest is obedience, friend.

Chew on this for a while. Let it sink into that beautiful heart of yours. God loves you, sweet girl. That's why He is showing you all of this. He loves you.

Okay, I will make the rest of this post (kind of) short and sweet.

First, I want to give a big, fat, THANK YOU, to our SHINE prayer intercessors. They have gone above and beyond the call to pray for our SHINE girls daily. Wow.

Girls, let me assure you--if you have posted a prayer request--we have been covering it with the precious blood of Jesus...daily. Our intercessors do not take lightly the call to pray for you. Man, they are good.

They are not the only ones praying, I am sure. Hopefully all who see your requests are lifting you up as well. So, you are double-covered. :)

If you are interested in being one of our SHINE intercessors, let me know...we would love to have more. Prayer is POWERFUL. Enough said.

Secondly, I hope to see your beautiful SHINEy face this Sunday at the home of JaNice Van Ness in Conyers. Please try to come! It will be so much fun! You can RSVP at this link: http://shinegirlsshine.blogspot.com/2012/01/its-shine-girl-party.html

Thirdly, if you know me, you KNOW I love games and challenges. So......

You have a FUN FRIDAY SHINE challenge! Yay!

Your challenge today is to give thanks to the Lord all day today. Not just this morning, or tonight when you pray, but ALL day. When you are in your car, at school, at work, in the grocery story, at the gas station, on your hot date...whatever it is.

Give thanks to Him. Thank Him for this week...that you made it to Friday.

Thank Him for His word and how He is speaking to you through it. Thank Him for just being HIM. Holy of Holies, King of Kings, Lord of Lords.

When we are thankful, our whole perspective changes. Does it not?

We see things differently. We see things as they should be and not skewed by bitterness.

Be thankful girls. It will only bless you.

I want to hear from you if you are doing this today! Tell us, share!

Listen to this verse. In fact say it out loud so that you really get it.

Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.

so very thankful for the gift of His Word,

**If you still are not getting emails and you signed up to get them...please let me know. I will see if I can fix the problem. :)  Just check the blog regularly, we have good discussions about the reading going on in our "discussion" post. If you are confused about any of the passages, go to discussion post. It's enlightening! :)

Jill, once again, you have spoken straight to my heart! As I was reading that verse about the burnt offerings and sacrifices, I was thinking the same thing. But you definitely opened my eyes to even more. There are definitely some areas I need to be more obedient in.
At the end of the chapter, it said that the Lord was grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel. I don't want to grieve the Lord with my disobedience. :( I definitely need to "straighten up and tidy up" some areas of my life. Thank you for the bulleted list above, I needed the reminder! Happy Friday to you and all the SHINE girls! Love, Sarah F.

  2. Noting that his not following instructions showed up in his son...I'm thankful that He requires obedience and clearly lays it out for us...no wondering if He means what He says.

I have always loved this book - I love the history and the stories. I was thinking yesterday, how did Jonathan know to go off like he did and to know what sign to look for in the Philistines' actions? I imagine because God spoke clearly to him. I long to hear the Holy Spirit that clearly and suredly! And today, oh boy, what a great lesson. Saul thought he was doing a GOOD thing by taking the best livestock and sacrificing to them to God. Don't we do that? Take good things and say, here God -- but that's not what He wants -- that's just going through the motions. The thing that struck me today was that God regretted making Saul the king. I don't want God to regret any position He puts me in. God and I both know I make mistakes and thankfully we live in a time of grace, but I don't want God to regret my actions, even when they are good. Thanks Jill - good stuff! Love, Pepper H.

  4. yes, girls. love what God is gently teaching us. it's so powerful. i love how relevant His word is. always.

we could do a whole study on these last few chapters. for real. :)

    love you much,

  5. I am so thankful for SHINE, and so thankful for you Jill. Your words speak to me. Today, I am being pushed to obey...further. Not just the minimum...but streeeeetched...for Him. Enough said. XOXO.

  6. I do not know if it was just me, but this jumped right off the page and slapped me in the face:

    22-23 Then Samuel said,
Do you think all God wants are sacrifices—
    empty rituals just for show?

I thought....what, in my walk with God, is for real and what am I a doing that is merely going through the motions or for show!??

    Whoa! My toes hurt.........

When things get chaotic........It's hard not to get caught up in the motions of life and worship! Or I often let life get in the way of worship! But without heartfelt worship with my full focus and obedience in the word....am I just worshiping for show??

I need to have purposeful worship.......all my encounters with God should be from the heart and sincere!

After all, I can look as sincere as I want on the outside for the world to see but God knows my heart. When he looks deep into the my soul I want him to see that I am 100% sincere from the inside out!!!!!!!!!

Father, I ask your forgiveness right now for my times of disobedience and my times of empty rituals!! Please show me areas in my life where I need purposeful worship and obedience to your word..........not for the world to see but for YOU to see in my heart!
I am so grateful for your numerous blessings!

Have a great weekend shine girls...I will miss the party but I know I will be able to see the glowing light radiating off of all of you from Conyers all the way to Madison!!
    Love and hugs,
    Kim J.

    1. Anonymous1/20/2012

My dearest Kimmy, you are just making me smile so much lately. The Holy Spirit is speaking to you and through you and it is a joy to see and hear! I believe God is doing a work in you and it is going to take Morgan County by storm! You are such a born leader and by you giving Him all the glory, you can bet, He is going to use you in mighty mighty ways! Because when KJ talks, people listen!

I love it and I love you :) Go SHINE beautiful girl!

      Cheering you on,

    2. Thank you my oldest and dearest friend! Your encouragement far exceeds its weight in gold! :o)

      Love you!!!

  7. Well, my Friday kind of sucked. One of my friends is furious with God, and me, because her father passed this morning. She is furious with God because He let this happen. She's furious with me because I told her that His timing is correct. I'm almost in tears, she hurt me bad...

    1. Anonymous1/20/2012

Hang in there sweetie. Your friend really needs you right now. Try and put your hurt aside and be patient with her as she grieves the loss of her dad. People say and do things they wouldn't normally say and do when they are grieving. Be strong and give her the support of your friendship that she needs so badly right now. She may lash out again to you during this...but try your best to forgive her and sympathize with what she is going through. Her vulnerability may actually allow you to witness to her about how she can find peace in our loving Heavenly Father that she will not find anywhere else. I will be praying for you to be sensitive to her needs and for you to share with her where your hope comes from. Bless you young one as you try and comfort your friend.

      Much Love and prayers,
      Angela Crowe~

Hi, Spellgirl. I have noticed your postings on this site. God is really using you, and the Enemy knows it. Satan would like nothing more than to trip you up right now.

I have learned that when loved ones are grieving, they just want a shoulder to cry on...someone to weep with them. At this point she is not looking for answers, her heart is too broken to even comprehend answers. Through time the Holy Spirit will work in her heart and give her peace as she needs it.

Just let her grieve as you listen and comfort her now. The greatest thing you can do is pray for her and to be a shoulder for her to cry on.

Keep SHINEing SHINE girl! You are being used by the Lord, sweet angel. <3

      Love you so.

  8. Thank you Jill for your devotion to Shinegirls. I so enjoy reading these chapters and comments from women like me. Well I am definitely like Saul! I'm going to thank God today and push negative thoughts away.
